“The Body of the Man in the Holy Shroud 2022”

This work of art is a custom, life-sized bronze cast sculpture of Jesus as he was laid in the tomb. The sculpture was created by renowned artist Luigi Enzo Mattei based on size and dimensions taken directly from the Shroud of Turin, the burial cloth of Jesus.  The sculpture’s base is a collaborative design emulating the stone in the Church of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem, where Jesus’ Body was prepared for burial.  The artist refers to the base as the “Marble of the Anointing.”

The sculpture was blessed by Auxiliary Bishop John Nhàn Trấn on February 18, 2023.  Located in the final room of the exhibit, visitors will not only see the face of Jesus in the Shroud replica but also touch His face.
