Go, Baptize, Teach!

Baptism Preparation

Purpose
To help prepare parents and godparents for a child’s baptism, and to assist them in resolving to keep their baptismal promise to raise the child in the Catholic faith.

Responsibilities
In Baptism Preparation classes, Catholic couples with baptized children present short personal testimonies about the practical ways in which they have sought to raise their child(ren) in the Catholic faith.

Helpful Attributes
A couple should be practicing their faith: attending Mass faithfully, receiving the sacraments regularly, and affirming all that the Church teaches; their marriage must be recognized by the Church. They should feel comfortable speaking to a small group (usually five to fifteen parents and godparents).

Training & Time Commitment
If chosen for this responsibility, a couple will receive guidelines for sharing.  Most couples will be asked to share only once or twice a year.
