The ministry of the Metropolitan Tribunal of The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Atlanta includes all matters concerning the application and practice of canon law within the Archdiocese of Atlanta as well as the appeals court for the Atlanta Ecclesiastical Provinces of Atlanta, which includes the dioceses of Charlotte, Charleston, Raleigh and Savannah. By delegation, the Metropolitan Tribunal also handles all matters of permissions and dispensations pertaining to marriage.

The Metropolitan Tribunal serves the people of the Archdiocese of Atlanta who wish to have their previous marriage investigated to determine if there is a case for seeking a declaration of nullity.   Any person wishing to determine the applicability of this process for their situation should contact an advocate.  The Tribunal Advocate Program is a group of trained and certified deacons and laypersons who provide canonical counsel to the lay faithful of the Archdiocese of Atlanta seeking a declaration of nullity in our Tribunal. Advocates have a formal role in the canonical trial and work to defend their party’s rights and advance their interests in the marriage nullity process.
