Baptism

Baptism is the basis of the whole Christian life and holds the first place among the sacraments of initiation.  Through Baptism we become members of the Church, the Body of Christ, and are freed from original sin.

  • Infants and Young Children

To schedule an infant baptism contact us at least three months prior to your preferred baptism date.

Once you have scheduled your date, parents and godparents will attend a Baptism Preperation Class. Children are welcome in the class, and we do not offer childcare.

    Questions?

  • Adults

Adults participate in the Order of Christian Initiation for Adults (OCIA), a faith journey that combines catechesis, prayer, and liturgical rites.

The OCIA process typically takes several months to more than one full liturgical year, depending on one’s journey.

    Unbaptized Persons (Catechumens):

Participate in the full OCIA process, including periods of inquiry, formation, purification during Lent, celebration of the sacraments at Easter and post-baptismal reflection (mystagogy).

    Baptized Christians (Candidates):

Follow an adapted OCIA process that leads to a profession of faith, confirmation and Eucharist. Baptism is not repeated.

  • Godparents - Letter of Good Standing

Godparents and Confirmation Sponsors require a letter of good standing from the parish where they are registered. The Catholic Church’s Code of Canon Law states that godparents and sponsors must:

    • Be a practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church
    • Be at least 16 years of age
    • Have received the sacraments of Baptism, Holy Eucharist, and Confirmation
    • If married, be in a valid sacramental marriage
    • Not be bound by canonical penalties
    • Not be the father or mother (of one being baptized)

St. Brendan asks that you be a registered and active member with the parish for at least 3 months prior to us issuing a letter.

    An active member:

    • Attends Mass on a regular basis,
    • Supports the parish through the giving of time, talent, and treasure (use of offertory envelopes or online giving),
    • And receives regular mailings and communications from the parish.
