A new Morning Prayer initiative is encouraging Catholics to rise early and join other members of the faithful in Cumming and around the world for the recitation of The Liturgy of the Hours prior to St. Brendan’s 8:30 a.m. weekday Masses.
The Morning Prayer will be recited daily at 8:00 a.m. before Mass Monday-Saturday, except Wednesday starting Friday, August 31. Interested persons may assemble in the Chapel; prayer begins promptly at 8:00 a.m. It is not difficult to learn and can be learned just by the doing.
Morning Prayer is a shortened part of the Divine Office (or, Breviary, Ecclesiastical Office, Canonical Office, and Christian Prayer: The Liturgy of the Hours). It is the official prayer of the Church. “Hence all who render this service are not only fulfilling a duty of the Church, but are also sharing in the greatest honor of Christ’s spouse, for by offering these praises to God they are standing before God’s throne in the name of the Church their Mother” (Const. on the Sacred Liturgy, mos. 84-85).”
The prayer book recommended is: Shorter Christian Prayer: The Four-Week Psalter of the Liturgy of the Hours Containing Morning Prayer and Evening Prayer.” It is available at Amazon Prime in bonded leather for $14.35, and also at Catholic Book Publishing Co. for $15.95 + shipping.
