Are You Interested in Becoming a Catholic?

To provide a welcoming environment that encourages spiritual growth within the Catholic community; to offer faith based instruction and preparation for the sacraments of initiation under the guidelines set forth by the Catholic Church, always recognizing that the Holy Spirit works in each individual in a time that is appropriate to their life.

The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults is the process by which adults become Catholic. The first phase is the Inquiry Period.   This is a time for searching, asking questions, and sharing your faith story.  It is informal and no commitment is required.  The subject matter of these sessions is determined by your questions.   It is an introduction to stories about God, the Church and our parish. The goal of these sessions is to increase the awareness of God’s presence in your life and help you discern your initial readiness to embrace a path of faith within the Roman Catholic Church.

The Catechumenate comes next; this phase provides more teaching about the Catholic faith and provides space for all to continue to discern, discuss and dialogue.

Purification and Enlightenment, during Lent, precedes reception of the sacraments at the Easter Vigil and is a heightened time of prayer and reflection.

Mystagogia is the ongoing living out of one’s faith and understanding what it means to be a baptized, initiated Catholic.

Sponsors for Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA)

Are you a member of St. Brendan’s parish and interested in sharing your faith with adults inquiring about the Catholic faith?  Participation in the RCIA process as a sponsor requires only that you are a practicing member of the parish who wishes to assist others in a mutually rewarding, spiritual process. Faith, not deep theological knowledge, is needed to participate.  There will be a training session for people who are interested in being a sponsor in the fall, date to be announced.

Rite of Christian Initiation for Children (RCIC)

Christian Initiation is a journey of conversion that transforms children as well as their families. Through sacramental initiation, children become active members of the Catholic Church. This program is for children who are minimum 7 years and older who were baptized in another faith, not baptized, or baptized Catholics without religious education and would like to come into full communion with the Catholic Church.

The group meets regularly after the Sunday 9:00 Mass, from September through the Easter season.

Any active member of the parish interested in teaching the candidates and catechumens in the RCIC program is welcome. Training is available.

Any active member of the parish who would like to guide a child on their faith journey as a sponsor is also welcome to join the program. Teaching is not required for sponsors and training is available.
