American Heritage Girls

Purpose

  • To provide a Christ-centered non-profit character development program to girls ages 5-18 with a mission of building women of integrity through service to God, family, community and country
  • The program is built on six program emphases that address the spiritual, mental, physical and social needs of today’s young women
  • Similar to other scouting organizations, the girls receive awards and merit badges for their achievements in these areas

Responsibilities
An American Heritage Girl will be asked to adhere to the Creed; “I promise to be: Compassionate, Helpful, Honest, Loyal, Perseverant, Pure, Resourceful, Respectful, Responsible, and Reverent” and to be active participants in the bi-monthly meetings.
Participants will serve the parish and community in many ways as girls are required to perform service hours each year.

Helpful Attributes
Young women, ages 5-18, who are looking to further their relationship with Christ, serve in the community, honor and explore their country, expand friendships at church and have lots of fun would make a great fit.

Training & Time Commitment
Meetings are held typically twice monthly, except during the summer, at the Church. Some changes in the schedule may be made due to school and national holidays. Service projects and events are scheduled throughout the entire school year.

Boy Scouts and Venturing Scouts

Purpose
The Scouts emphasize duty to God, Country, Others, and Self.  St. Brendan’s parish has sponsored a Boy Scout Troop for years to provide this experience for boys aged 11-17. A newly formed High Adventure Scout Troop is also now available for both Boys and Girls Ages 14-21 called Venturing Scouts.

Responsibilities
Scout activities in support of our parish include: Easter Vigil Fire, Flag Retirement Ceremonies, and small maintenance projects around the property including Eagle Scout projects such as the fire ring and community garden.

Helpful Attributes
Young persons looking to develop character, friendship, citizenship, and personal fitness.

Training & Time Commitment
Regular weekly meetings and one weekend outing per month, such as camping, canoeing, hiking, biking, rock climbing, etc.  Scouts are encouraged to come to meetings and campouts when available and will work around other activities such as athletics.

Kitchen Crew & Receptions

Purpose

  • To plan and implement social events pertaining to the church at large
  • Examples include: our Feast Day celebration, receptions for new priests/staff and Baccalaureate dinners
  • Events can range from formal receptions to picnic-style gatherings

Responsibilities
Volunteers are needed to help with setup and cleanup of events, maintain the kitchen, help manage kitchen requests, occasionally offer baked goods for events, and provide a hospitable, friendly environment for all hosted events.

Helpful Attributes
People who enjoy fellowship, being in the kitchen, food preparation/presentation, a little bit of cleaning, or just baking a few goodies for an event would certainly enjoy this group.

Training & Time Commitment

Mother’s Morning Out

Purpose
The Mothers’ Morning Out Program is designed for children who are between the ages of 16 – 24 months and offers parents an opportunity for a few free hours per week, while allowing the children a chance to play and socialize in a safe, loving environment.

Pre-School

Purpose
These programs are for children who are 2 – 5 years of age by September 1st.  Our classes provide children the opportunity to learn through exploration in a warm and nurturing environment.  In addition to the pre-kindergarten curriculum, children in our program are exposed to music, Spanish, and Catholic religious education on a weekly basis.  Classes are taught by experienced and loving teachers.

Seniors Group

Purpose
To share friendship with one another, pray together, and have fun.

Responsibilities
Each month one couple picks the restaurant to meet; they put the notice in the bulletin and are responsible to introduce any new members.

Helpful Attributes
All are asked to be friendly and helpful to and for each other.

Training & Time Commitment
There is no need for any training; the group has years of life experiences.  Monthly lunch meetings are sometimes supplemented with outings or day trips.

Welcoming / Hospitality Ministry

To provide a warm welcome to our parish family, new parishioners and visitors as a Greeter or Information Desk volunteer.

Responsibilities
Welcoming and Hospitality Ministers will provide coverage for our Information Desk in the Narthex of our church and serve as Greeters at the doors of the church before and after Masses.  This is a great way to learn more about your parish as you help answer questions and guide visitors.

Helpful Attributes
Willingness to help others, a warm smile and a caring heart.

Training & Time Commitment
After an initial orientation – either at a predetermined class time or gained while serving with another experienced Welcome Minister – your commitment can vary based on your schedule.   Come a little early and stay a little late at the Mass you and your family normally attend.   Many families serve one Mass per month.
