AFF News week of September 23

Many thanks to all who helped make the parish ministry carnival this past weekend a great success! It was such a great pleasure to spend the day at the Adult Faith Formation booth, making new friends, seeing old friends and AFF supporters, and of course spreading the word about all the good programs and events we have going on in AFF at St. Brendan's. Can't wait to find out who won the raffle basket: more than $160 worth of great spiritual reading!

My only regret was that I didn't get to watch as Fr. Juan took a dive in the dunking booth . . .

Dr. Tony Palmer's new series for men, Have Your Cake and Eat It Too, got off to a great start Thursday night. The next session of this twice-monthly series on happiness and the virtues will be Thursday evening, Oct. 4, at 7 p.m. in the social hall. Tony has some great food for thought–men, come check it out!

This week in AFF:

  • The Year of Faith DVDs continue with Fr. Robert Barron's excellent series, Catholicism, 8:45 to 10 a.m. Sunday mornings in the parish social hall. If you have children in classes at that hour, this is an excellent way to spend your time as you deepen your faith.
  • The Gospel of John Bible study continues on Tuesday nights at 7 p.m. in the social hall. Some folks are coming to the 6 p.m. Mass, then sharing some light refreshments right afterward, before the study begins. We'd love to have you join us a few minutes early for coffee and a dessert!
  • Walking With Purpose Scripture study for women (Tuesday mornings) is still taking registrations, but hurry! Space is limited, and sessions begin October 2.

Check the regular listings on our AFF webpage to find out about other ongoing opportunities to strengthen your faith.

Finally, remember that the Year of Faith announced by Pope Benedict XVI for the worldwide church begins soon: Thursday, October 11. At St. Brendan's, we'll mark the opening of the Year with a special Mass at 6 p.m. that evening. After Mass, we'll have a book table in the narthex with great spiritual reading available–books and other resources for sale, plus free pamphlets and prayer cards. Don't miss it!

BTW: This Saturday, September 29, is the Feast of the Archangels Michael, Gabriel, and Raphael. Why not take a moment to thank them for all they do to help us each day?

God bless,

Paul
